Maybe old news, but still one of the super-coolest things I’ve seen in the last couple of years. Those red-suited henchmen in the floating pods looking around get me every time.

I’m especially fond of Dr. Benton Quest’s bold choice to decorate the cockpit of his supersonic jet in an industrial shade of goldenrod. Though a popular color for presidential drapes and rugs throughout the 50’s-70’s, Quest was the first scientist to adapt it for use in cutting edge avionics.

As with many technological advancements made by the military industrial complex in the space race years, weaponized goldenrod eventually trickled down to the consumer appliance market, where it graced refrigerators and electric ranges until 1982, when it was discontinued after a protracted and losing battle with beige.
